My Review: The LEGO Movie

Photo: Chris White

The inner-child in me had to go see what The LEGO Movie was all about.

The film follows Emmett (voiced by Chris Pratt), your ordinary, rules-following, LEGO construction worker. He’s mistakenly identified as the “special” and a key to saving his world from evil tyrant President Business (voiced by Will Ferrell).
An unprepared Emmett is thrust into a wild quest to stop President Business from making everything in his control “perfect” by using “Kraggle” – Krazy Glue. He’s joined in the fight by strangers including Wyldstyle (voiced by Elizabeth Banks), wise man Vitruvius (voiced by Morgan Freeman) and Batman (voiced by Will Arnett). Yes I said Batman.
I’d be lying if I said I liked the film from start to finish. It started off really slow for me and a couple people left the theater during the first half of the film. Boy did they miss out!
The second half really picked up and the ending was great. I can’t reveal too much but I’d even go as far as saying the ending was one of the more brilliant film endings I’ve seen as of late.
If you go see The LEGO Movie you may question your judgment halfway through. Hang in there, because you’ll appreciate the heartfelt ending with a poignant message about being and believing in yourself no matter what obstacles lie in front of you.
