NMM: The Willis Clan

An awesome – and very talented – family band is the subject of this week’s New Music Monday.

I first discovered The Willis Clan on season nine of “America’s Got Talent” last year. The 12 – yes, 12 – children of Toby and Brenda Willis make up the band that focuses on several various genres of music.
Music is not the only area of talent for members of the Willis Clan, winning both regional and national dance championships in addition to placing in world music and dance competitions. The band auditioned on “America’s Got Talent” in 2014, making it to the Quarterfinal Round before being eliminated way too soon. Since then, The Willis Clan has performed in venues across the globe, including the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., where the band is a frequent guest. The Willis Clan just released an album entitled Heaven which has a nice mix of tunes spanning across several different genres. In just its first few weeks on the market, Heaven has received a five star rating on iTunes and peaked at No. 12 on the iTunes Pop charts. The band also has its own show on TLC called “The Willis Family” which you can check out Tuesday nights at 10/9c.

I love The Willis Clan. Not only are its members amazingly talented, the family itself seems to be incredibly kind and down to earth. “The Willis Family” show is wholesome and – for a change – something positive to watch. Heaven is already on my playlist and it’s a great album from what I’ve listened to so far. If you’re looking for originality and music from the soul, I’d definitely check it out.

Below, you’ll find a performance of “My Favorite Things” at the Grand Ole Opry. Make sure to go buy Heaven on iTunes or wherever you buy music from. Also be sure to follow the band on Facebook and Twitter!
