“New Music Monday” is BACK this week with a feature on Alex Preston.

The talented singer/songwriter was a finalist on season 13 of “American Idol” and has since been working on his debut album. The album was released on July 21 and has already been well received.
Hailing from New Hampshire, Preston has been involved with music since the age of four, as his website bio states. Preston is a multi-talented artist, playing more than 12 instruments and writing his own lyrics. Placing third on “Idol” – and just being on the show for that matter – has catapulted Preston’s career, giving him the opportunity to perform across the United States and Canada as well as work with a plethora of top artists like Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, Aloe Blacc, Gavin Degraw and Zooey Deschanel, to name a few.
Preston’s debut, self-titled album began as a Kickstarter project, raising $11,000 from about 350 backers. This album is unique in that Preston decided to seclude himself in a cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, writing and producing his debut project while drawing inspiration that came to him at the time. I find that to be a very cool idea and the final product hasn’t disappointed. The album offers a nice mix of songs from jams with added instruments to more reserved, broken down pieces. No matter the style of tunes, all 11 tracks of this project are full of character and soul. That’s why I became of fan of Preston on “Idol” – each of his performances on the show captivated me like no other contestant. This album is a continuation of that and is definitely worth the money.

Alex Preston. Remember that name, folks.

Check out a video below of the beautiful tune “My Best Friend” off of the new album. Also, be sure to purchase the album in Preston’s online store or on iTunes.
