It’s been a while since my last film review. This go-round, I’m reviewing the new film The Intern from Nancy Meyers (Something’s Gotta Give, The Parent Trap).

Robert De Niro stars as 70-year-old Ben Whittaker, who realizes that retirement isn’t all that exciting as he thought it’d be. Looking for something to do other than warming up lasagna for one, Ben finds a posting for a new senior intern program at a trendy online fashion company in New York. Ben is accepted into the program and becomes personal assistant – a.k.a. gopher – to the company’s founder/owner, Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), who can be pretty difficult to work with at times. But Ben is not shaken by this and ends up being very successful in the program, developing a friendship with Jules along the way.


The Intern was a breath of fresh air. It was funny – downright hilarious at times – heartwarming and just an all around pleasant film to watch. Actually, it was great to go to the movies and see a positive film for once. The acting from De Niro and Hathaway was superb as usual and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Adam Devine and Zack Pearlman (who played two of Ben’s co-workers, Jason and Davis, respectively) shined. This review is short because I don’t have any criticism for The Intern, unless if saying I didn’t want it to end counts.
