1) Heels & Pack Get Big Wins
This past weekend was a big one for my Tar Heels, Wolfpack and Panthers as all three teams got wins. First, Carolina. The Heels obliterated arch rival Duke 66-31 on Saturday to maintain its Coastal Divison lead. Now, Carolina is just one win away – and a Pittsburgh loss at Duke – from clinching the Coastal Division crown and a date with Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. If that doesn’t happen this weekend, the Heels can simply win two of its final three games to clinch. Next up is Senior Day in Chapel Hill and an always unpredictable Miami team. Should be interesting.
Next up, N.C. State. The Pack won 24-8 at Boston College to move to 6-3 on the year and become bowl eligible. Boston College is known to have a tough defense, so it was even better to see N.C. State put up a pretty good number on the scoreboard. Next up for the Pack is an extremely tough road test on Saturday against Florida State, which is coming off a loss against Clemson.
2) Carolina Panthers Are 8-0
Between the Heels, Pack and Panthers, it’s amazing I don’t have some heart condition and/or high blood pressure. Carolina held a commanding lead against NFC foe Green Bay in the fourth quarter before almost blowing it late. The Panthers did what was necessary to secure a 37-29 victory and move to 8-0 on the season. Panthers teams of the past seemed to always find ways to lose games. This Panthers squad has found ways to win games and it’s been fun to watch. Next for the Panthers is a date with 2-6 Tennessee on Sunday.
3) I’m Seeing Stevie Wonder!
I can now cross another concert off my bucket list. I’m going to see Stevie friggin’ Wonder Saturday night! I’ve always wanted to see him live but I never thought it would happen. It’s going to be a blast! I’ll be sure to include my thoughts – and pictures – on next week’s “My Friday Five” post.
4) Cup “Controversy”
Social media went all wacko over Starbucks releasing a minimalist, red cup as its “holiday cup” this year. The move prompted many to cry foul, saying it was purposefully dissing Christmas and so on. I can’t stand Starbucks – or coffee, for that matter – but c’mon people. If all you have to worry about is a stupid coffee cup, you need to get your dang priorities straight. There are millions of hurt, sick, starving people in this world and you want to whine about a coffee cup? I love the Christmas season and its true meaning but give me a break with this cup nonsense!
5) JT’s Going Country?
I happen to come across a Rolling Stone article saying that country radio has started playing Justin Timberlake’s “Drink You Away” in wake of his duet with Chris Stapleton that brought the CMA Awards house down. The article even tossed around the idea of the Memphis-born Timberlake producing a country project of his own sometime in the future. I love Timberlake and the song “Drink You Away” but really? Putting his song on country radio is the exact opposite of what should be going on. Stapleton is the country artist who already hasn’t received as much airtime on mainstream radio. Put his music on. I mean, seriously, this one is a head scratcher.
