My Review: The Jungle Book

I’m not usually keen on film remakes but, after hearing so much talk about the new version of The Jungle Book, I thought I should check it out.
The film tells pretty much the same story as its predecessors – yep there’s more than one – a young “man-cub” named Mowgli (Neel Sethi) is cared for and raised by a pack of wolves in the jungle after an accident that left him an orphan. When his life is threatened by a tiger, Sheer Khan (Idris Elba), Mowgli is forced to flee the jungle while venturing on a journey of self-discovery guided by a panther, Bagheera (Ben Kingsley) and a bear, Baloo (Bill Murray).
The Jungle Book is one of the most famous coming-of-age stories out there. This latest version of the film was very good but I don’t get what all the hype was about. To me, this was just a more technologically advanced presentation of the famous story. I’ll note that the cinematography in this latest version was exquisite. Stunning, in fact. But, beyond that, The Jungle Book was just okay to me.
I Give It A: B
