My Friday Five: Some Sports & Some T.V. Talk

1. UNC Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse in the Final Four

I’m kicking this week’s post off with a big ‘ol CONGRATS to the North Carolina Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams for making the Final Four. The men’s team ended a 23-year drought – woah, that’s my lifetime – while the women’s team makes it six Final Fours in eight seasons. The women are playing in its National Semifinal against Penn State on Friday evening and the men play Loyola (Maryland) Saturday at noon, each with a chance to advance to the National Championship game. Go Heels!

2. ACC Baseball Tourney

The 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament got underway on Tuesday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park this week. Unfortunately, Carolina didn’t make the tourney in what is a stacked conference this season. Also unfortunately, N.C. State was knocked out of ACC Title contention at the tourney by virtue of a loss to Florida State on Wednesday and a Seminoles’ victory against Georgia Tech on Thursday. Despite that, it’s always cool to see some ACC Baseball action in Durham, especially since the conference is very strong this season.

3. Computer Woes

When I started college, I knew I needed to upgrade my laptop for class. As apart of my graduation gift, my mom got me a sleek HP laptop. That sucker was a good one but pretty much died by the time I graduated college, so I bought a new laptop. It hasn’t even been two years yet and that sack of horse poop has developed some major issues. The battery won’t hard a charge anymore, the trackpad works when it wants to, the speed is slowing down, etc. So guess what? I think it’s time to get a new laptop – again. I’ve been doing some research based on lessons learned with the current laptop I own and the one that’s impressed me so far is the Dell XPS 13. It has a nice design but, even better, it has been awarded for its performance. I’m still not sold on one so, if you have any suggestions, please drop me a line in the comments. I don’t want something that’ll wipe out my savings yet I don’t want something that costs less than $700 – that’s a lesson I learned from my past laptop purchase.

4. Bernie/Trump Debate?

There’s been a lot of talk lately about a possible debate between Democratic presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders, and presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump. Yea, folks. You read that correctly. As a Bernie supporter myself, I’m chomping at the bit to see this actually happen. BUT…Trump said on Friday that he’s no longer considering a debate with Sanders. Chickening out are we? I guess so.

5. Riverdale

Of all the new shows coming this fall, one in particular is getting a lot of talk. Riverdale, based on the famous Archie comics, is not what you think it’ll be. In fact, the new show – airing on The CW midseason – is a darker, more “grown-up” telling of the Archie story. The show features a talented cast, including a return to television for Cole Sprouse. You may recognize him from the Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck. Both of which I watched religiously back in the day. No doubt, I’m stoked about Riverdale and I hope it lives up to all the hype.
