1. Our Country
I’m getting tired of writing posts like this. Not because it’s inconvenient for me but it’s ridiculous that tragic events involving guns keeps happening. Of course, the latest being the shocking killing of musician Christina Grimmie and the Pulse Nightclub shooting. I won’t go into detail about either incident – the news has done that enough – but I will say it absolutely disgusts me that there is so much hatred in our world. Rather it be on a small or large scale. Additionally, both incidents have sparked debate regarding gun laws – or a lack thereof – in the United States. Before you go all “Second Amendment” on me, I don’t know whether stricter laws would have prevented the events in Orlando, Fla. We’ll never know. However, we can’t continue on this path moving forward as a country. Something must be done to curb these hateful crimes. How many more innocent lives must be lost before we take action?
2. Hamilton Wins Big
On a much lighter note, Hamilton won big at the Tony Awards. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash hit Broadway musical took home 11 awards including Best Musical. The feat was just shy of the record but still incredible nonetheless. Hamilton has been a cultural game changer and inspiring to millions of people, including yours truly (I wrote a post about it this week). I hope that, one day, I’ll be able to see the show whether on Broadway or on tour.
3. Musketeers vs. Ghirardelli
I’ve always wanted to do a taste test between two different chocolate candies. Why? I’ve noticed that both Hershey and Mars chocolate has changed dramatically throughout the years. I’ve actually quit eating Hershey because the “chocolate” tastes fake to me now. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself. It’s definitely not how I remembered it when my grandpa and I would drive up to a local convenience store and buy a Hershey bar to share. The same goes for some of Mars’ candy, especially 3 Musketeers. I used to eat a 3 Musketeers bar almost everyday when I came home from school. I haven’t had one in years so I thought why not try one again? I took a bite and I almost spit it right back out. It was gross! The candy wasn’t out of date either. It tasted fake, almost like I was chewing on plastic. Just to compare, I had a piece of Ghirardelli chocolate handy, so I did a taste test. I tried the Ghirardelli first, cleaned my palate with water and then tried the 3 Musketeers. The difference was astonishing. I could actually taste the chocolate in the Ghirardelli. It tasted real. The 3 Musketeers? Not so much. Not at all, in fact. What Ghirardelli costs it definitely makes up for in taste. I will never eat a 3 Musketeers again, that’s for sure.
4. Congrats USMNT!
The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team is Houston bound! The team defeated Ecuador 2-1 in the Copa América Quarterfinals to advance to its first Semifinals since 1995. This win epitomized the phrase “team effort” as the USMNT had contributions from multiple players that led to the victory. Up next is a match on Tuesday vs. the winner Argentina and Venezuela. You can watch the match at 7pm EST on FS1.
5. I’m In A Music Video!
I know what you’re thinking: “Say whaaattt?” Yep it’s true. Mike Tompkins, an acapella singer/songwriter, partnered with Chevy to create a new song. Tompkins took to Twitter asking his followers to help him write it. Now, I’m not that creative in the songwriting department but I was able to do this part of the songwriting challenge: Tompkins also asked if fans could simply tweet “NA NA NA NA NA NA NA” and he would pick some to put in the video. Well, my tweet made the cut! I’ve posted the video below and my tweet appears at the 2:23 mark. You’ll see it second from the bottom on the right hand side.
