Well, I’m back at the movies after my interesting experience last time – that didn’t take long, right?

This review is all about Central Intelligence. The Rawson Marshall Thurber film stars Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson as high school classmates who reconnect on Facebook before a class reunion and end up getting involved in an interesting – and potentially deadly – situation. Hart’s Calvin Joyner was the star pupil and athlete in high school, voted most likely to succeed. Johnson’s Robbie Weirdicht was the awkward guy who was constantly bullied. The film’s first sequence depicts the contrast between the two in terms of their high school statuses. Calvin is being celebrated at a senior pep rally while Robbie is dragged out of a locker room while taking a shower by some bullies and is thrown into the rally (butt naked I might add) all to be made fun of by his peers. Calvin is the only person who comes to Robbie’s aid during the fiasco. Some years later, Calvin is an accountant – it’s obvious this was not his dream – and is married to his high school sweetheart. One day at work, Calvin is browsing his Facebook when he receives a friend request from a “Bob Stone.” It turns out “Bob Stone” is (a completely transformed) Robbie and the two meet up at a local bar to hang out. One thing leads to the next and Calvin finds himself in the middle of an International espionage situation.

I thoroughly enjoyed Central Intelligence. Sure, some of it was corny but it also had a great message behind it about trust, friendship and bullying. Plus, Kevin Hart added a lot to the film – as he does with any film he’s in. In all honesty, I didn’t get my hopes up for the film but it turned out to be one of my favorites this year. Go see it!
