1. Pack & Heels in Rio
Big congrats and good luck to athletes from N.C. State and UNC in the Olympics! The two institutions combined to send 22 athletes to Rio. My alma mater (N.C. State) sent five to The Games while UNC sent 17, many of whom will compete together on the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team. I’m stoked to see what these athletes will do and I know they will represent their respective schools and countries well!
2. More Sesame Street BS
As you may recall, I talked last week about news that bigs at Sesame Street decided to let go of three longtime actors – Bob McGrath, Roscoe Orman and Emilio Delgado. After an uproar on social media, Sesame Workshop CEO, Jeff Dunn, released a statement saying, in part, “We apologize for the misunderstandings around the changing cast roles at Sesame Street…I have been in touch with each of them to meet in person about how we best adapt their talents to the current content needs and preschool media landscape, in a way that honors their historic contributions.”
“Misunderstandings?” HA! There’s no misunderstanding here. Sesame let go of these three actors for the simple reason that it’s always “out with the old, in with the new” – and it’s a crying shame. Not to mention, what’s with people royally screwing things up and then releasing statements that make it sound like we are misunderstanding something? It annoys me to no end. Hey Sesame Workshop, don’t try to can popular actors and maybe people won’t call you out.
3. Bull City Running Man
I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of Running Man Challenge videos by now. Well, after being challenged by the Atlanta Police Department, Durham Law Enforcement got in on the act and created an awesome video. I see you, Bull City!
Take a look…
4. Happy Ann’y LPBW
Tuesday, the Season 10 finale of Little People, Big World aired on TLC. 10 years. Wow! I’ve been a loyal viewer of the show for all 10 seasons. The Roloffs have been apart of a good chunk of my life. I’ve grown up alongside the Roloff kids and, like me, they are all grown up and doing their own thing. It’s wild how fast these 10 years have gone but this show is still going strong. Congrats, Roloffs and here’s to many more LPBW episodes to come!
5. I Did It!
About a week or two ago, the driver’s side door handle of my car finally broke. I say “finally” because it had been acting up for quite a while. I knew it was only a matter of time before it broke. It turns out a whole piece on the inside of the handle broke off which meant that I couldn’t open my door from the inside. It lasted seven years, so I can’t complain. Now, I’m normally one that takes my car to the shop for just about anything. I have no freaking clue about fixing cars. I’m a month or so removed from shelling out $1,200 for a car repair, so I was bound and determined to fix this stinkin’ door handle myself. Luckily for me, there’s this thing called YouTube and, with a few tools and a lot of patience, I was able to install a brand spankin’ new door handle (shoutout to Fusion Kidd for the detailed how-to video)!
Why is this worth a place on the “My Friday Five” list? My grandfather was the Mr. Fix-It of our family. No, seriously. He could build and fix just about anything. Since he passed, I’ve had no one to turn to when things like this happen. I’ve felt like I needed to “prove myself” and fix something without help. I am 24 years old, after all! I know it sounds silly, but I felt like “Pa” – as I affectionately called my late grandfather – was watching over me and guiding me through this process. I did it, Pa!
