At the beginning of the year, I started a challenge for myself and for all of you awesome people. That challenge is to, simply, read more. Just in case you’re new to my blog, let me explain.

I’m not talking about reading some juicy novel or a magazine. I’m talking about reading material that expands our minds, improves our understanding and maybe even helps us to develop as humans. The first selection was Unashamed by Lecrae and I strongly encourage you to check out my thoughts on it before moving further.

The next book in the Read More Challenge has to do with Lecrae as well, albeit, partially. In February, Lecrae posted on social media about a book entitled The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. The book discusses the Great Migration and its lasting impact on American history. Lecrae challenged his fans to read the book and write a five-page essay reflection on it. Wilkerson’s epic book undoubtedly opened my eyes to a time I had limited knowledge of. I learned about Jim Crow and segregation in school like anyone else, but Warmth enlightened me to just how raw and brutal this era of history was.
