I’m always up to discover new music for my readers to listen to. Last week, I received an email from an artist named Daniel Matthias requesting me to feature a tune he created in collaboration with fellow artist, Kuizz Shah. Let me be honest for a second. This is the first time I’ve received a special request to feature a song. I normally choose new music that I’ve found by looking through iTunes, etc. The email came as a bit of a surprise but I was pretty darn honored to be asked to do a feature. That means other people are seeing my work on this blog and it truly does mean a lot. I hope my words, here, will do the song justice.
Okay, enough rambling. The new tune I want you all to check out is called “Uncool.” It’s written by Matthias and Kuizz, with Matthias producing and mixing and Dee Yaz providing artwork. This latest track is a remix of Kuizz’s 2016 release and it’s simply awesome. More on that in a few. But first, who are Kuizz and Matthias? According to his bio, Kuizz is a songwriter/producer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Having his songwriting recognized in Canada and Japan, Kuizz began a professional career after working at a publishing label in Los Angeles, Calif. His work for several artists has garnered success and now, after working a majority of the time behind the scenes, Kuizz is branching out into a solo venture. Matthias’ bio states that he’s a songwriter/producer who creates music reflecting hip-hop, R&B, EDM and indie influences. Having been raised in Budapest, Hungary and spending time in Melbourne, Australia; London, England; and Minnesota his work is influenced by a multitude of different cultures. Things really came together when Matthias was a college junior while sitting in his dorm room and writing songs. At that time, Matthias patterned his work after the likes of Jon Bellion, Stromae, Calvin Harris, Cesaria Evora, Ryan Leslie and Kanye West. It was there – and this is the really cool part – he produced a song entitled “Closer” by Brandyn Burnette, an artist that I’m a big fan of and who I’ve featured right here on my blog not once, but twice!
“Uncool” is a great tune on its own. The remix only adds to it. There is a theme of doing your own thing present (“…but I was singin’ my own tune”) and how there should be nothing wrong with that (“It’s okay if you call me uncool”). My interpretation of the song is: it shouldn’t matter if you’re the shy kid in the classroom, the free spirit, what have you. Let people call you “uncool” or whatever they want. Individuality is key. I, for one, love the lyrics – and can relate to them in a way. Throughout grade school, college and even now in the real world, I’ve stayed true to myself and don’t conform to what the “in-crowd” is doing. Trust me, it’s much more rewarding to be this way in the long run.
Lend an ear to “Uncool” below and be sure to keep an eye on these talented guys!
