My Friday Five: On The Olympics, UNC Players Returning & Bulls’ Continuing Dominance

1. Los Angeles to Host 2028 Olympics

Los Angeles officials have reportedly reached an agreement to bring the Olympic Games back to the city in 2028. According to a report from Rachel Axon at USA Today, the agreement would allow for Paris to host in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028. As per the agreement, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would provide funding not only for The Games but also to youth programs in the area, among other things. According to the report, the Los Angeles city council and the United States Olympic Committee board of directors will convene in August to discuss approving the bid. If approved, the IOC will confirm the host cities at meetings in September.

I know it’s about 10 years away, but attending the Olympics has always been a bucket list item for me. It would be so awesome to witness The Games in person!

2. Paige & Hicks to Hornets 😱

Two former Tar Heels (really, Tar Heels for life) Marcus Paige and Isaiah Hicks, signed contracts this week to join the Charlotte Hornets organization. Paige signed a two-way contract, which allows him to play up to 45 days with the NBA squad, although he’ll probably spend the bulk of his time with the Hornets’ G-League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm. Hicks signed a training camp contract and, if he doesn’t make the regular season NBA team, he will most likely spend time in Greensboro as well. All fine by me! I got the chance to see Paige play last season for the Salt Lake City Stars so, needless to say, I’ll definitely be checking out some more Greensboro Swarm games this upcoming season to see him and Hicks play!

3. Bulls Dominate Knights

The International League South Division-leading Durham Bulls wrapped up a three-game series with the Charlotte Knights on Thursday. The Bulls swept the Knights in those three games and moved to 12-1 in games against the Chicago White Sox’ top affiliate at Durham Bulls Athletic Park this season. You read that right: 12-1.

The Bulls’ social media peeps are some of my favorites and they didn’t let me down with a savvy reaction to this…

Way to go, Bulls, and – I guess – better luck next time, CharLLLLLLLLLLLLotte? 😏

In the market for a new pillow? Make sure to take a look at my review of the &Pillow by Tuft & Needle. I talk a little bit about the company, describe what you get with the pillow and answer the ultimate question: is it worth your money?
