My Friday Five: On A ‘Double Dare’ Reboot, Willy Adames & A Huge Baseball Series This Weekend

1. The Return of Double Dare

HOLY SCHNIKES! Double Dare is returning to television! Reboots are a big thing right now, and the beloved Nickelodeon game show is getting the reboot treatment, with all new episodes airing this summer. While it’s not clear if the original host, Marc Summers, and co-host, Robin Marella, will join in on the return, I’m still so freaking stoked for this to happen!

2. Willy Adames Hits for Cycle

History was made at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Monday night. Durham Bulls shortstop, Willy Adames, hit for cycle (a single, double, triple, and home run in a game) en route to an 8-1 trouncing of the Buffalo Bisons. Adames becomes the first player in Durham Bulls Triple-A history to conquer the feat. Expect to see this guy in the majors soon. Congrats, Willy!

3. Huge Series This Weekend

UNC and N.C. State meetup in Raleigh for a big-time series in college baseball this week. The sixth-ranked Heels and second-ranked Pack will play each other in a three-game set that will ultimately determine who takes control of the ACC. If the recent Duel at the DBAP was any indication, this is going to be good!

4. Bye-Bye Ford Sedans

This is just…weird. Ford announced plans this week to begin phasing out its lineup of sedans in the North American market, accept for the Mustang and a yet-to-be-developed small crossover, in order to focus more on its trucks and SUVs. That means namesake Ford lines such as Focus, Fusion, and Taurus will soon be a thing of the past.

Company officials cite declining consumer demand for sedans as a reason for the change. Frankly, I call B.S. on this. Bill Chappell of NPR said that the Fusion and Focus models have outsold the Mustang this year (and it’s not even close) yet Ford is ditching the better selling models.

Many of you probably know my first car was a Ford Fusion. When I looked to replace it last year, I looked at the Fusion. I ultimately never went with it and I’m glad I didn’t. You better believe that I’ll also never buy a Ford again after this news.

5. Mat Franco (Finally) Coming to Durham

America’s Got Talent winner, Mat Franco, is finally making his way to my neck of the woods for a show. My jaw dropped when I found out that he was going to be at The Carolina Theatre in Durham on August 14. I’ve been a fan of his since his time on AGT and I’m one of just about 400 or so people he follows on Twitter. I also won a contest a few years back that he held on Twitter where I received a signed photo and a t-shirt (I still have the photo framed and hanging on my wall). This probably goes without saying, but I purchased the VIP experience for the August 14 show. It includes a meet and greet opportunity with Mat and seats in the front row. I definitely can’t wait for it!
