NMM: New Takes On Holiday Classics

It’s Christmas Eve! Time for one last post featuring some old holiday tunes that have been made new again.

Let’s kick things off with Creigh Riepe’s very cool version of “Wonderful Christmastime.” I can’t say the Paul McCartney’s original is my favorite, but Riepe’s version just may change my mind. Riepe transforms the song into a swing or waltz style which gives it a unique feel. I’ve been a fan of his for a while and know of his outstanding vocal ability. This is a fresh and enjoyable take on a classic.

You know I have to include a jazzy tune in this lineup. Look no further than Lauren Daigle’s take on the classic “Jingle Bells.” Daigle’s version is incredibly cheery and just downright amazing. Her vocals are subtle yet distinctive. And, like I said, I’m a sucker for a good jazz tune and this one is perfect.

Rounding out this (short) playlist of new holiday favorites is an incredible take on “Last Christmas” by Wham! from the insanely talented James TW. Funny story, I had taken my mom to a physical therapy appointment last week and they were playing a mix of holiday songs. This one came on and I wondered who the heck is behind this beauty of a tune? I knew the original artists, of course, but James’ version goes above and beyond, in my opinion.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
