1. Heels Get Big Win at Cameron Indoor
UNC traveled to Durham Wednesday evening to take on No. 1 Duke in another installment of the Battle of the Blues. The No. 8 Tar Heels came to play from the jump and defeated the Blue Devils 88-72.
Many folks cited an early game injury to Duke freshman phenom, Zion Williamson, as the cause of the loss but that is simply not true. In addition to Williamson, Duke had three potential first-round NBA lottery picks on the floor at some point in time. Carolina outplayed Duke, period, regardless of whether Williamson was injured. If Duke is a championship caliber team as many say it is, why are there these excuses all of a sudden? The team should fight through adversity and find a way to win. The Heels have done so on multiple occasions without complaint. UNC’s win continues to prove my point that teams can have talent all they want. But when it comes to talent AND experience, that simply cannot be beat.
In the wake of the game, I’ve seen expressions of poor sportsmanship from many Duke fans. I guess they take after their coach.
2. Throwback Time
Speaking of UNC, I came across a photo of me with UNC great, Eric Montross – talking about a throwback!
Several years ago, Montross spoke at my church and I had the opportunity to meet him. I don’t know why, but I was much more excited to meet him than the photo depicts. I guess I was either so nervous or not ready for the photo to be taken 🤷🏼‍♂️ I’m sure Jones Angell and Adam Lucas as well as Carolina Insider Pod listeners will enjoy this one! #SeeYaLaterBigGrits
3. The Oscars
The 91st Academy Awards airs Sunday and this film buff is ready for it! Make sure to swing by the Oscars Challenge page to read my full reviews on each of the eight nominees for Best Picture. It should be a great evening.
4. The Willis Clan Ending
The Willis Clan, a musical family which I’m a huge fan of, announced via social media that the band in its current state will be no more as each member plans to focus on individual endeavors. While not completely surprising, the news definitely came out of nowhere. Particularly since The Willis Clan is fresh off releasing a new album in 2018 as well as embarking on a tour.
I had the pleasure of – finally – seeing the band perform in person and meeting the Willis siblings in North Carolina last year. They were all so genuinely kind to everyone and I’m beyond grateful to have met them. Not going to lie, the news has really upset me. The selfish part of me has so many questions, such as: why now when you just released a new album and getting back to touring? The logical part of me understands.
Nothing good lasts forever, I guess.
5. Trying Something New
I’m 26 and now reach a height of six feet. Believe it or not, I have slept on the same twin bed since high school. You read that right, high school. It’s been a great bed but, in the last year or so, I’ve noticed my feet now dangle off the end. That’s why I began to search for something new a few months ago.
Enter Thuma. The online company makes one product: a bed. The bed is simple in design and is supposedly easy to put together, requiring no tools to do so. After going back and forth on whether to buy it, I decided to go ahead. I purchased a queen size – given its longer length – and received notification that it’s on the way! I even received a neat little surprise in the mail from the company this week, a candle and welcome card.
Stay tuned for my full review of the bed, coming soon.
