Champs Again

In the words of J.Cole: Count it up, count it up, count it!

N.C. State Swimming and Diving had a whirlwind of a couple weeks, racking up a sweep of the ACC Championships in dominant fashion.

The Pack women’s team brought home a program record 11 event titles to claim its second ACC crown in three seasons. 12 swimmers took All-ACC honors, which is a program record. Accompanying the women’s swimming team is men’s diving, led by a second consecutive podium finish for James Brady. He bested his third place score from a year ago and set a program record as well.

On to the men’s swimming team, which won a fifth straight ACC Title and 29th for the program overall, beating second place Louisville by more than 200 points. The team was led by ACC Meet Co-MVP, Coleman Stewart, who broke a couple of ACC records en route to two individual medals and a relay medal. In all, State saw 17 podium finishes with five gold medals.

I took the short ride up to Greensboro to experience ACCs for the first time this season and it was a blast! Nothing beats rooting for your alma mater and supporting its ridiculously good swimming and diving programs. The atmosphere was electric as well! Plus, it’s always great to see athletes and coaches who not only say they’re thankful for the people who support them but, oftentimes, interact with them via social media or in person. That was another reason I attended and showed my support.

A few of the swimmers follow me on social media and I’ve developed a friendship with senior Justin Ress throughout the past year or so. It started on social media by me showing support for him and has grown from there, in that I was able to stick around and meet him after the Pack’s home swim meets this season. If nothing else, we can definitely talk about what our Carolina Panthers are – or are not – doing and the craziness that is American politics haha! I’m thankful to have him as a friend and it’s pretty freaking cool that he has taken the time to chat with me and such.

In any case, I’m proud of ya Justin and I look forward to cheering you on as well as everyone else at the NCAAs. I know the Pack will make a huge #STATEment in Austin, Texas! 🐺♦️
