NMM: Willow City

Truth be told, I don’t watch Nickelodeon as much as I used to.

However, the network shifted its programming structure recently to bring back some old favorites like All That and Double Dare, while also making room for new competition shows like America’s Most Musical Family. It was on this show that I discovered the talented group Willow City.

The Texas-based, family band is comprised of the Proch siblings – Beecher, Ezra, Liza, and Asa – who began learning classical piano at the tender age of six, according to the group’s bio. A decade later, Beecher and Ezra held some jam sessions, playing around with a variety of musical styles, when they received a call inviting them to perform at a local charity event. Asking their siblings to join, Beecher and Ezra’s musical exploration turned into something more substantial. A few performances and calls later, Willow City was born.

The group released its debut project in 2018, which placed in the Top 15 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Chart. Willow City has also toured throughout Texas and the United States, which led to competing on America’s Most Musical Family for a chance at a recording contract with Republic Records.

It was on the show that I discovered Willow City. Heck, I don’t know how I didn’t discover this amazing group before. Each member provides his or her own unique musical genius to the band, which has a folksy-pop vibe. Off its appearance on Nickelodeon, Willow City released a brand new single entitled “Ghosts” which Ezra describes the meaning of more eloquently than I ever could.

“Ghosts” features outstanding lead vocals from Liza with equally impressive vocal and musical contributions from the rest of the band. The music combines the folksy-pop hallmarks of Willow City’s sound with a toe-tapping beat and what I can only describe as a smooth, electronic instrumental hook. I’ve had it on repeat – and for good reason.

Lend an ear to this stellar new tune below and be sure to grab a copy here. Also, drop a comment letting me know who I should feature next for New Music Monday!
