My Review: Baby Driver

What do you get when you cross high stakes action – and a bit of love and comedy – with music? The answer is the best film of the summer and one of the best original films in years.

Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver follows Baby (Ansel Elgort), a partially hearing impaired getaway driver for a crime boss named Doc (Kevin Spacey). Baby makes incredibly slick moves to getaway from Doc’s elaborate robberies, just as long as the right track is playing in his ears. One day, Baby thinks he’s finally free from his servitude under Doc; he starts to fall in love with Debora (Lily James), a waitress he meets at a local diner and they dream of a life totally free with no one else but each other. However, Doc has one last job for Baby, which puts not only himself but everyone he loves in danger.

If the action sequences and crazy getaways don’t draw you in, then the sheer genius of this film will. Baby Driver  takes the best of the typical action/crime thriller and turns it up a notch. Youre immediately lured into the film – much like Baby is lured into Doc’s robbery schemes – right from the opening sequence. It’s a toe tapping, heart pounding, emotional roller coaster of a ride that you must see!
