My Friday Five: On Panthers’ Woes, ‘Stranger Things’ Season Two & Changing Times

1. Panthers’ Woes

Tisk, tisk, tisk. The Carolina Panthers are 4-3 and are on a two-game losing streak. The long and short of it is the offense sucks. Period. It’s not on just one player. It’s as a unit. I’ve said for quite some time now that offensive coordinator, Mike Shula, needs to be fired. There’s been no such move from the Panthers organization yet and that’s leaving many fans, myself included, restless and frustrated.

I personally believe this team is better than its 4-3 record. It’s a true shame and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll never see the Panthers win a Super Bowl. Sure, they’ve come close, but it’s like a broken record with this franchise: have a fantastic season every once in a while, lose the Super Bowl and then tank the other seasons. It happened in in 2003 and it’s happening now. Carolina was 6-10 last season and is already 4-3 this season. And, no, I’m not a fair weather fan. I’ve spent countless hours watching games when the Panthers were really bad, but enough is enough. This longtime fan is calling for something to change.

2. Stranger Things Season Two Is Upon Us

It’s here! It’s finally here! The second season of Stranger Things premiered on Netflix in the wee hours of Friday morning. What has become one of my all-time favorite shows, I was stoked for the premiere – and I may or may not have stayed up until 3 a.m. to watch the first episode. 😜 After a good night’s rest, I continued watching and am now halfway through the nine-episode season as of this writing. No spoilers but, let me tell ya, it’s freaking awesome so far!

And, a Stranger Things post wouldn’t be complete without me rehashing my story on how I got to meet Gaten Matarazzo in July. You can check it out here!

3. Did You Know?

Speaking of Stranger Things, I found out something really cool this week about the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers. Turns out they grew up in my hometown of Durham, N.C.! In an interview with the North Carolina Arts Council, Matt and Ross Duffer reminisced about their time in Durham and how they started filmmaking. It’s a very nice piece so make sure to give it a read!

4.  Changing Times

Earlier in the week, I wrote about Bob’s BBQ in Creedmoor, N.C. closing and a bittersweet, final visit I took there this past week. Make sure to check it out because it’s really good! In fact, it’s one of my favorite posts this year – and I’m my own worst critic!

5.  Huge Game for the Pack

The 14th-ranked N.C. State Wolfpack football team faces a huge test as it travels to South Bend, I.N. to play 9th-ranked Notre Dame. The Pack is undoubtedly one of the best teams in the ACC this season and this is a monumental game – and primer to an even bigger game next week against Clemson. It should be good. Go Pack!
